Mobile Phones for Students

Look at the package and provider which suits you. Do you want 'pay as you go' or contract? The advantage with 'pay as you go mobile' is that you can more easily set yourself a spending limit and keep to it - and there are numerous deals giving additional talk time and texts. Contract is normally cheaper to use - but a large bill can easily be run up if your not careful. We found some of the 'Pay as You Go' Tariffs quite confusing from some of the companies - and for the time being have reduced our selection to just two. The examples given are for £10 per month the benefits do increase however as you pay more - and these can clearly be seen on the links provided.

Pay as You Go

Orange Offer a wide range of incentives to encourage people to top up on a monthly basis. These do change from time to time but do normally include 'free' texts and talk time. At the moment for a monthly £10 top up you can get 300 free texts or 120 evening and weekend minutes. Also the 2 for 1 cinema offer can be useful. See link for all and up to date offers in full.
O2 Again a large number of incentives to top up on a monthly basis and include 'free' texts and talk time. For a monthly £10 top up you get 300 free texts. See link for all and up to date offers in full.

Contract

Find the best deal for you now that's the obvious part - however when you come to the end of the contract make sure it is still the best deal. Companies tend to give the best rates to attract new customers - the majority of whom will then stay put even when their rates become less advantageous. If you find a better deal phone up your company they will probably match it as customer loyalty is important to them - if not consider consider moving. We've short-listed three which we would consider.

Orange Orange start from a monthly tariff of £4.89 which includes 50 anytime minutes & 50 free texts. There is also a tariff of £14.68 for 100 anytime minutes & unlimited texts. These are online prices and are from the 'Dolphin' range. The agreements are over an 18 - 36 month period.
O2 O2 start from a monthly contract of £14.69 which includes 250 free texts and 75 minutes call time. At £19.58 this includes 400 free texts, 200 minutes of call time and unlimited 02 - 02 calls.
